We have had a great start back and the children have been sharing their Christmas News as well a the gifts they received. In Religious Education we thought about the New Year and we all made resolutions. Our theme in RE is Celebrating New Year in different countries and next week we move on to Chinese New Year.
The children who read regularly over the holidays are making amazing progress and are very enthusiastic to read in class. This confidence transfers to the writing as well and thinking about sounds in words. In number, we used numbers to 20 and some children were able to talk about teen numbers being made up of a 10 plus another number. We used cubes to measure length and height but very quickly some children chose to use rulers and the standard measure of cm.
Perhaps the greatest excitement for many was PE on Friday and using the large apparatus. This followed on from our floor work on Tuesday where we developed listening skills. The children loved the apparatus and are generally a physically confident class.
On Friday afternoon, we all read to our buddies in Y6. We thought this would be a lovely sharing time. The Y6 buddy will be encouraged to record a simple note in the record book.
Next week we move on to Jack and the Beanstalk. I am hoping to develop a building area in the playground and wondered if anyone had any old bricks from building projects that you don't need?
Hope you enjoy these photos and look forward to seeing the children on Monday.
