A wet Saturday afternoon

What a miserable afternoon. Thought some happy photographs of the week will cheer everyone up.
We started with some creativity and making our own Jolly Postman.
In numeracy, we were using our bonds to 10. (Two numbers that add up to 10. You can do this using fingers. Children know it as Fishy fishy fingers).
We were finding different ways of sharing an amount of objects.
We started the week with Kian's birthday.
Scarlet proudly shared her wow moment- these swimming certificates are brilliant.
In Religious Education, we started our new topic by thinking about the importance of giving presents and what this makes us feel. These boys were wrapping a present for Mrs Fox.
Wrapping a present makes it more of a surprise agreed the children.
Molly and Romario wrapped another present for someone else.
Mrs Fox was excited to receive a present. We love having Mrs Fox visit us which is why we wanted to get something as we know how hard she works.
Whoops, unfortunately we gave her the wrong present and she opened a toy spider that was meant for someone else. She had already mentioned she didn't like spiders in a letter she had written to Cygnus class. However she still said thank you which meant we could talk about how sometimes we receive presents that we might not always want but it is polite to say thank you so that we don't hurt people's feelings.
Luckily we had another present and Luke helped open it as it was his birthday.
Mrs Fox finally opened a present that she really liked.
Luke and his mummy made some special cupcakes as a celebration of his birthday and to remember the special day of 11/11. We talked about why this day is important and what it means.
Thank you for the cupcakes, they were delicious.
Scarlet started using our new postal bike- the role lay area is a post office.
Writing cards and letters.
Waiting for a customer.
Brilliant writing Elena.
Yum, best time of the day. This class are the best at eating. Laura is always very proud of them.

In phonics, we are almost at the end of phase 2 sounds. We have been learning ss, ff and ll. we know that these are friends together and are usually found at the end of a word. Don't forget phonicsplay.co.uk to support your child at home. I am doing a short phonics evening straight after school on Tuesday. This will support you in how to pronounce the sounds as well as actions to go with them. We will look at how we can blend sounds to read words or segment them to help us write words. Please do come. We are not running child care but I am sure the children will help me to help you.

Next week, the Jolly Postman is visiting the Wicked Witches house where we meet the gingerbread man. We will be thinking about a potion for making the gingerbread man into a good friend. In maths, we will be weighing parcels and comparing weights. This will be a home learning activity as well. Find two objects and ask your child to predict which is heaviest or lightest? Let the child feel the objects. We don't have to worry about the actual weight.
Have a lovely weekend.
Mrs Bq
